I completed my bachelors in microbiology in 2021 at North Dakota State University and, during my undergrad, did work with plant pathogens and soil microbiome. Near the end of my undergrad, I decided to shift my focus away from agricultural microbiology and more on human disease. I surveyed wastewater to measure the presence of Covid-19 during the pandemic in which we were able to use that data to track spikes in infection, along with viral mutations, within the ND community. This is where I learned various molecular microbiological techniques and I became fascinated with the molecular level of microbial research.
