CANVAS 2025
PhD students, Debarshi and Purbasa, presented three oral presentations and a poster at this important annual meeting. Their presentations highlighted the factors influencing soil, plant, and water microbiomes. Banerjee organized a Symposium at for the Soil Biology and Biochemistry Division of the Soil Science Society of America. The symposium titled “;Using Network Analysis in Soil Biology: Understanding the Do's and Don’tst;,”. This symposium highlighted the limitations of co-occurrence network analyses and presented strategies to address these limitations. Along with other distinguished speakers, Banerjee discussed how network analysis can be used to generate hypotheses that can be tested empirically.

Banerjee gave an invited talk at a special webinar organized by the ND Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society. He shared some findings from the ND Agricultural Microbiome Project.

April 2025
Our lab had an incredible opportunity to be involved in the NATURE Sunday Academy program! The NATURE (Nurturing American Tribal Undergraduate Research and Education) initiative has been inspiring Native American middle and high school students for more than 25 years through hands-on STEM learning experiences on tribal college campuses across North Dakota. Over the past few months, we traveled to Turtle Mountain Community College, Sitting Bull College, NUETA HIDATSA SAHNISH COLLEGE and Cankdeska Cikana Community College for the outreach. During our visit, we demon strated microbial cultures on plates, the fascinating microscopic structures of vesicles and arbuscules in mycorrhizal fungi, and tardigrades extracted
from moss samples. The students’ excitement and curiosity were amazing to see- many asked great questions, and a few even said they’d love to study at North Dakota State University someday! We’re so glad we could be part of this experience and help spark interest in science in the next generation!
